Stoplogs

For the past 100 years, SDEM Hydro has designed and built stoplogs and blocking devices of all kinds.

A stoplog is generally a temporary metal structure used to retain a volume of water. They can be deployed to carry out preventive or curative maintenance work downstream of the dam. Stoplogs are regularly used by dam operators to dry out immersed tunnels and carry out work along their length.

Their design requires a great deal of attention and specific know-how. Several conditions must be met in stoplog design :

  • – Waterproofing
  • – Feasibility of assembly and disassembly
  • – Transportation to site
  • – Storage and conditioning if reusable

Stoplogs are made to measure according to precise specifications and tailored to each project.

Firstly, a 3D model of the structure is built to validate the design in its environment. If necessary, we can produce a 3D scan of the concrete structures to generate precise and actual readings. In parallel to the stoplog design process, calculations are made to validate the dimensioning of all elements: anchors, structural components etc. Concerning the dimensioning of stoplog parts, we apply Eurocode standards whenever applicable and also use finite element modelling software.

Once the dimensioning and modelling are complete, all data is submitted to the client for validation and the stoplog construction drawings are sent to the production workshops.

We also imagine, design, and manufacture the tools used to deploy these stoplogs, which can occasionally be very imposing. This may concern a gantry crane, a rolling structure, an assembly frame or any apparatus used to install and disassemble the stoplog.

We deliver our experience to serve our customers, to ensure seamless execution of the stoplog project in full respect of budget constraints, deadlines and safety conditions.
